Italy's three representatives at the
Cannes Film Festival came away empty-handed Saturday at an
edition won by French director Justine Triet's Aanatomy of a
fall, the third woman director to pick up the Palme d'Or.
Neither Marco Bellocchio's Rapito (Kidnapped), 2001 winner Nanni
Moretti's Il sol dell'avvenire (A Brighter Tomorrow), nor Alice
Rohrwacher's La chimera got any prizes.
But Italian cinema officials highlighted that Italian cinema had
nonetheless gained great prominence in an edition of the
festival where the competition has been among the fiercest and
highest quality in years.
Having three films in competition is a record for Italy, they
noted.
