The turnout in 41 cities holding
local-election run-offs stood at 37.51% at the end of the first
day of voting on Sunday, significantly down on the 45.43%
registered in the first round.
Seven provincial capitals are involved in the run-offs.
The centre right was ahead in six of them after the first round
two weeks ago - Massa, Pisa, Siena, Terni, Ancona and Brindisi -
and behind in one, Vicenza.
People can vote until 15:00 on Monday.
Sicily and Sardinia, meanwhile, were holding the first round of
elections in many towns and cities on Sunday and Monday.
The turnout in Sardinian at the end of Sunday's voting was
47.58%, down from 62.86% in the last round of local elections
there
It was also down in Sicily at 44.38%.
