The Milan Court of Appeal on Tuesday
upheld convictions handed to League Treasurer Alberto Di Rubba
and Andrea Manzoni, a former accountant for the right-wing party
in parliament, for charges of embezzlement and disruption of a
tender procedure.
The case regards the sale and purchase, between 2017 and 2018,
of a hangar near Milan by the Lombardia Film Commission (LFC).
Around 800,000 euros in public funds was siphoned off during the
operations.
Di Rubba was previously the president of the LFC.
While the convictions were upheld, the court of appeal reduced
the sentences.
Di Rubba got four years, six months and 20 days, down from five
years in the first-instance ruling, while Manzoni got three
years, down from fours years and four months in prison.
In Italy sentences are not considered definitive until the
appeals process, which can also involve a petition to the
supreme Court of Cassation, is exhausted.
