Rai state broadcaster is thinking of
selling a Renaissance palazzo on the Grand Canal in Venice where
its Veneto office is located.
The possible sale of Palazzo Labia, whose piano nobile is
frescoed with some of Tiepolo's finest work, is generating a
local earthquake with Veneto Governor Luca Zaia saying "it would
be like selling the Colosseum".
Culture Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano has said the ministry may
exercise its right to buy Italian cultural heritage if the
storied building does indeed come up for sale.
"It certainly constitutes a site of great cultural interest," he
said Tuesday.
A bipartisan appeal has gone up against the possible sale.
